We all recently saw the dramatic reports of the pet food recall and the reported deaths of potentially thousands of cats and dogs, all as a result of numerous brands of both wet and dry "food" produced by Menu Foods. Have you noticed how quickly the reports faded from the public eye? The news media and the general public have very short attention spans. If it's not an "emergency" or at "crisis" stage, its not worth talking about. It is this apathy that the pet food producers rely on. They
know that the dust will settle.
These companies will make their "apologies" and send their "condolences" to the pet owners who have unnecessarily and tragically lost a beloved friend to their products. However, these companies do not care that their products were the cause of painful and preventable pet deaths and emotional devastation for hundreds of people.
The reason they do not care, is that the know that they can ultimately carry on doing business as usual. They can continue to import the cheapest "ingredients" from some of the least regulated countries in the world, they can continue to use "meat by-products" from rendering plants and they can continue to spray chemicals and preservatives on their products.
The reason that they can continue to do this, is because there are no regulations which say that they can not do it. They will suffer no adverse financial consequences for putting inferior, contaminated ingredients into a product which is being sold as food for one of the most important members of your family.
Ask the hard questions, find the answers and stay informed on what is really going on in the commercial pet food industry.
